Hello, I’m Kalida. I am an educator, writer, and lifelong learner with a deep love for language, stories, and the small details that give life meaning. Born in Brazil and raised in Lebanon, I grew up surrounded by different languages, cultures, traditions, and ways of seeing the world. Those experiences shaped my love for words and my belief that every person carries a story worth listening to and a voice worth expressing.

Much of who I am lives in the things I naturally return to. I love reading and getting lost between the pages of a book. I journal because writing helps me hold onto thoughts, memories, places, and moments I do not want to lose. I write poetry and stories, cook with love, and enjoy photography because I have always been drawn to capturing what might otherwise pass unnoticed. Whether through a page, a photograph, a meal shared with others, or a few handwritten lines in a journal, I find beauty in creating, remembering, and connecting.

That way of seeing life follows me into my work as an educator. I want students to learn, of course, but I also want them to become curious, confident thinkers who are not afraid to ask questions, make mistakes, and discover their own voices. Kalida Corner grew from all these parts of me coming together: education, literature, writing, creativity, and human connection. It is a space rooted in learning, but it is also a reflection of something I deeply believe: when we make room for curiosity, expression, and care, there is always room to grow.

For me, teaching has never been about simply giving a student the right answer. It is about helping them understand how they arrived there, why it matters, and how they can carry that understanding into what comes next. Every learner brings different strengths, questions, experiences, and ways of understanding, and meaningful learning begins when there is room for those differences.

The Socratic approach has deeply influenced the way I think about learning. A thoughtful question can sometimes teach more than an immediate answer. I encourage students to ask why, make connections, explain their reasoning, consider another perspective, and apply what they have learned in a new situation. I want them to become comfortable thinking through uncertainty rather than waiting for someone to do the thinking for them. The goal is not simply knowing an answer. It is developing the ability to question, reason, and discover.

Reading and writing naturally belong in that process. Reading asks us to look closely, interpret, question, and encounter perspectives beyond our own. Writing gives us a place to respond, organize our thoughts, and find the language for what we want to say. Mistakes, revisions, questions, and moments of uncertainty are part of learning too. Sometimes understanding begins precisely when we are willing to look again.

What matters to me is that students leave with something they can carry beyond a lesson: knowledge they can apply, confidence in their own thinking, curiosity to keep asking, and the independence to continue learning. Academic growth matters, but so does the person growing alongside it. Education, at its best, should not tell students what to think. It should help them discover how deeply they are capable of thinking for themselves.
